Named 2012 ‘Building of the Year’ at the Australian Institute of Architects, Central Queensland
Azuris is located on the western side of Hamilton Island designed to respond to its spectacular location so close to the water’s edge with the site falling steeply away towards the ocean. The sculptured concrete, stone and glass home is an open plan design with uninterrupted views of the ocean from every room. The main living area is wrapped around by a stunning pool with the ocean as a back drop. With simple, clean lines and spaces that are carved out of robust masonry, delivering longevity and minimal future maintenance for the tropics.
Over the past 3 years, through my collaboration and my many site visits on the construction site of both houses, Solis and Azuris, my experience and relationship with Ben Ferdinand has always been one of great respect for his good natured management of his construction team. Always with a self assured composure and calmness; even under the sub- tropical heat and pressure to deliver the projects on time. No matter what construction or detailing issue arose during the construction of both multi-award winning houses , Ben demonstrated a professional attitude to the task at hand, keeping cool and rational at all times …… a true gentleman.
The successful outcome of both houses is testimony to Ben’s skill as a builder and site manager – RENATO D’ETTORRE, Sydney
